Axinite, clove brown, 0.59ct., pear, VSI, 4.5x7.3mm, Brazil.
One of the more rare gems, known for it's dichroism, from brownish to purplish.
$47.20 (Stock #AXBP-0059)
Axinite, clove brown, 1.06ct., triad shield, VSI, 6x9.2mm, Brazil.
One of the more rare gems on the market. Has decent hardness (6.5 to 7.0), is famous for it's brown to purplish dichroism.
$84.80 (Stock #AXBT-0106)
Axinite, clove brown, 1.15 ct cushion. 5x7mm, SI. Axinite is a silicate of boron, and is hard enough to wear as a gemstone. $46.00 (Stock #AXBC-0115)
Bastnaesite, medium golden-brown, Pakistan. 1.79 cts., 6x7.6 mm pear shape, VSI. Bastnaesite is a rare fluorocarbonate of cerium metals found in pegmatites in Russia, Sweden, Colorado, etc. The only gem material I am aware of comes from a recent find in Pakistan. $358.00 (Stock #BAGP-0179)
Bastnaesite, slightly reddish-brown, Pakistan. 1.66 ct triad shape, 5.6x6.5 mm, EC. A rare mineral, and even more rare in facet grade. It has a hardness of 4.5. $249.00 (Stock #BABT-0166)
Brazilianite, yellow with a greenish tinge, 1.59ct., teardrop, SI, ~6.5x10.5mm, Brazil.
Hard to get material. This one has some light inclusion, so is priced lower, but still a decently good stone. Named for the country of Brazil. A little soft for jewelry, but can be used in a protective mounting.
$87.45 (Stock #BRYT-0159)
Chondrodite, or Hydroxyl-clinohumite. Deep garnet red-brown, 1.00 ct., freeform arrowhead shape, Pakistan. This stone is very rare, but is included with some disfiguring specks and inclusions, hence it is priced accordingly. Chondrodite was for years only known from the Tilly Foster Mine in upstate NY. I originally bought this piece in Tucson as from a new small find in Pakistan. Later a vendor has been selling some crystals on eBay first as chondrodite-clinohumite, then as hydroxyl-clinohumite, so am not for certain the determination of species. $50.00
Cyprine, Pakistan. Very deep grayish-blue, 1.82 ct rhombic cushion cut. Heavily included, and a bit ugly. This gem is excessively rare, it's a blue variety of actinolite, and only from Pakistan. This is the last piece of a few pieces I bought from a vendor a few years back. I haven't seen any on the market for a few years now. $50.00.
Diaspore, light greenish-yellow, 1.51ct., long emerald, VSI to EC, ~4.5x14mm, Turkey.
Rare gem. Has a bit of a window, but otherwise nicely cut in Sri Lanka.
$75.50(Stock #DIYE-0151)
Diaspore, light dusty greenish- yellow, 2.39ct., long emerald, VSI, 5.7x13.9mm, Turkey.
A challenging-to-cut gem from Turkey that seems to be the rage right now. Has a strong cleavage, so you would need to be careful setting this in a mounting. Cut in Sri Lanka.
$143.40(Stock #DIYE-0239)
Diaspore, greenish-yellow, 1.82ct., pulsar, EC, 6.0x7.4mm, Turkey.
Rare aluminum oxide gem, 6.5 hardness. Has a strong cleavage, but should be fine in a pendant or earrings.
$182.00(Stock #DIYP-0182)
Diaspore, light greenish-yellow, 1.99ct., cut corner triangle, VSI, ~7.5x12mm, Turkey.
Windowed, but otherwise nicely cut in Sri Lanka. Rare.
$99.50(Stock #DIYT-0199)
Diaspore, light dusty greenish-yellow, 4.66ct., teardrop, close to EC, 9x14mm, Turkey.
Clean! This is the nicest diaspore I've had. Beautifully cut in Sri Lanka on American equipment. Excellent brilliance. Shows some color-change.
$466.00(Stock #DIYT-0466)
Enstatite, greenish brown, 0.62ct., oval, VSI, 4.7x6.8mm, Asia.
A rare gem. Slight flaw in one end, otherwise clean.
$31.00 (Stock #ENBO-0062)
Enstatite, pale yellow, 1.06ct., pulsar, VSI, ~5x6mm, unknown locality.
Rare gem material from E. Africa or the Orient. Hard enough for jewelry.
$63.60(Stock #ENYP-0106)
Epidote, greenish brown, 3.88ct. (total), emeralds, SI, California. A fairly common hard mineral, but rare as a faceted gem. Strongly dichroic, these are dark greenish brown, and are clean to VSI. Most facet grade material now comes from Pakistan. Buy all four or any of the pieces separately.
$50/ct.(Stock #EPBE-4 piece)
Fluorite, deep green, 3.08ct., symmetrical freeform, VSI, ~8.5x12mm, Rogerly Mine, England.
Unusual emeraldy green color with a blue component which gets stronger in direct sun due to high fluorescence. Cut similar to a kite shape. This collector's stone is considered too soft to safely set into most jewelry.
$123.20(Stock #FLGF-0308)
Herderite, Minas Gerais, Brazil. 1.05 ct light golden yellow oval, 6.7 x 7.5 mm, EC. Herderite is a phosphate mineral found in granite pegmatites, and is rare as a faceted gem. It comes in several colors, including purplish, yellow, or colorless. Cut in Brazil. $75.00 (Stock #HRYO-0105).
Kornerupine, greenish-brown, 2.16ct., oval, SI, ~6.5x8.5mm, unknown locality.
A rare gemstone sometimes found in Sri Lanka or Africa, as well as a few other places. Not the most attractive of colors, like epidote. More of a collector's gemstone.
$108.00(Stock #KOBO-0216)
Kyanite, sapphire blue, 3.91ct., emerald, SI, 9.3x14.2mm, Brazil.
Hand selected for top color. This material is fairly common and popular, but the best color and clarity is hard to come by, and some facets can be a real challenge to polish well. A bit soft (directional hardnesses 5 to 7), but with care can be used in jewelry.
$156.40 (Stock #KYBE-0391)
Lazulite, Brazil. Deep azure blue, 0.76 ct pear, SI to VSI, 5 x 7.5 mm. A phosphate mineral, and very rare as a faceted gem of any size to speak of. Cut in Brazil. $228.00 (Stock #LABT-0076)
Microlite, Minas Gerais, Brazil. An 0.65 ct golden yellow oval, 3.9 x 5.1 mm, and rate SI. Quite rare as a faceted gemstone. Cut in Brazil. $130.00 (Stock #MIYO-0065)
Montebrasite, pale yellow, 2.28ct., pear, VSI, 7.8x10.7mm, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Rare pegmatite gem seldom seen as a faceted gemstone. A close cousin to amlygonite. Good brilliance in this stone.
$171.00(Stock #MBYP-0228)
Pollucite, colorless, 3.64ct., cushion, EC, ~8x12mm, Brazil.
A rare colorless cesium silicate for collectors, but hard enough (6.5) for jewlery.
$182.00(Stock #POCC-0364)
Pollucite, colorless, 2.46ct., oval, EC, ~7.5x10.5mm, Brazil.
A rare cesium silicate. A rare collector's stone hard enough (6.5) to set into jewelry.
$123.00(Stock #POCO-0246) See picture above.
Pollucite, colorless, 2.45ct., trillion, EC, ~9.5mm, Brazil.
A rare cesium silicate, popular with collectors, yet hard enough (6.5) to use in jewelry.
$122.50(Stock #POCT-0245) See picture above.
Powellite, unknown locale, probably Brazil. Here's a very rare gemstone containing both molybdenum & tungsten. Cut in Brazil, has some very light scratches on some facets. 0.84 ct , 4.7 x 6.1 mm, oval, VSI. Pale golden yellow.  $300.00 (Stock #PWYO-0084)
Prehnite, neon yellow, 2.35ct., oval, EC but hazy, 8x10mm, Australia.
A rare facetted gem from down under. Attractive lemony-neon yellow color. Is eye-clean, but like rose quartz has a bit of an inherent haziness, creating a warm glow. A collector's stone, but 6.5 on the hardness scale..
$82.25(Stock #PRYO-0235)
Pyrox-Mangite/Rhodonite, Brazil. An opposed bar-cut oval, 1.20 ct., INCL.  These fragile manganese silicate gems are exceedingly difficult to cut due to very strong cleavage causing them to frequently splinter apart on even the finest of laps. This is a first and only example I have ever been able to complete. This one has some inclusions which prevent good brilliance, but the color is extremely nice! $240.00 (Stock #PMRO-0120)
Scheelite, light yellow, 1.59ct., pear, VSI, China.
Rare tungsten gem. Glows blue in a SW black light.
$79.50(Stock #SHYP-0159)
Sillimanite, light grayish violet, 1.03ct., emerald, VSI, ~4x10mm, E. Africa.
This rare material can be difficult to cut, and is an aluminum silicate related to andalusite and kyanite. Most of the material from Sri Lanka and the orient is brown colored. This piece had to be cut a bit shallow with a window.
$77.25(Stock #SIVE-0103)
Sphalerite, green-yellow, 5.62ct., arrowhead, SI, ~8.5x12.5mm, Big 4 Mine, Kremmling, CO.
Hard to find. Rare Colorado sphalerite (ZnS) in good size and clarity. These are soft stones, too soft for jewelry, but are highly sought by collectors. This lighter color is ideal to show off their high dispersion.
$281.00(Stock #SLGA-0562)
Sphalerite, green-yellow, 3.23ct., pulsar, SI, ~7x9.5mm, Big 4 Mine, Kremmling, CO.
Great color in this rare collector's stone, known for it's high dispersion. Colorado stones are particularly scarce these days. Too soft for jewelry, but popular as a collector's gem.
$161.50(Stock #SLGP-0323)
Sphalerite, green-yellow, 3.09ct., triangle, SI, ~9mm, Big 4 Mine, Kremmling, CO.
Rare greenish sphalerite (ZnS) from Colorado. This brighter color is more ideal to show off the high dispersion than the red or brown varieties. Soft, collector's stone only.
$123.60(Stock #SLGT-0309)

Sphene, greenish-yellow, 0.57 ct teardrop, VSI, unknown locale. Good brilliance, fantastic dispersion, like a diamond or better. $45.60 (Stock #SNYP-0057)
Sphene, greenish-yellow, 0.58 ct oval, 4.6 x 6.0 mm, VSI. Unknown locale. Known for it's diamond-like dispersion. $50.00 (Stock #SNYO-0058)
Viridine, deep green, slighly yellowish, INCL to SI, Brazil.
Rare, for the collector: manganoan variety of andalusite. These are very scarse. The color is reminiscent of chrome diopside, and some are brighter than others. Various shapes and sizes. Cut in Sri Lanka. (Stock #VIG-variety)
Please note: Much effort has been made in the attempt to get as accurate a picture as possible of our gemstones. We are in the process of upgrading our pictures with a newer, higher resolution camera, but it is a slow time-consuming process. Please keep the following in mind while shopping: Cameras do not see color exactly the same as the human eye and lighting conditions often cause large variances. When taking pictures for the web, we have found that it is very difficult to capture the brilliance that the human eye sees and photos cannot often show all of the stones' ambiance and jewelry pieces' fine detail. Also computer monitors vary and often color tones are set to suit the viewer's preferences. When shopping, remember that "the pictures are meant as a rough guide only." All our products have a money-back guarantee (see terms above) so there is no risk in ordering from the Buena Vista Gem Works.
