We just got in a wonderful new lot of natural brilliant topaz gems from the Tarryall Mountains of Colorado. There are stones up to almost 11 carats here, clean, very nicely cut. Most are colorless to pale champagne, but a few show pale blue. (Note that the champagne colors always fade over time in the sunlight or ultraviolet light. Many of these pieces I collected myself in the rough form years ago. I also bought or traded for others from collector friends. Topaz is considered the November birthstone.

SOLD. Topaz, light blue to colorless, Glen Cove, Pikes Peak, CO.
This rough was collected by Robert Drisgill in the 1990's from the "Ed Over Jr." worked with ropes in the 50's. Found by re-tracing his steps with a picture of the cliffs in hand. The area yielded a small number of really nice pieces.
This piece weighs in at 30.59 cts and measures 16x20 mm. Cut by me into a Portuguese style pear shape, graded VVSI.

Topaz, off-white, 3.93ct., arrowhead, VSI to EC, 9.2x14mm, Pilot Peak, Tarryall, CO.
Note that the stone has faded in color from when the photo was taken (all champagne or sherry topaz fades in sunlight to some degree, some much faster than others, there is no way to predict). Rare topaz from a classic American locality. Topaz there comes in white, lt. blue, or champagne (some is bi-color). Champagne is probably the rarest of the colors, probably because of the fading problem.

PLEASE NOTE: Much effort has been made in the attempt to get as accurate a picture as possible of our gemstones. Keep the following in mind while shopping: Cameras do not see color exactly the same as the human eye and lighting conditions often cause large variances. When taking pictures for the web, we have found that it is very difficult to capture the brilliance that the human eye sees and photos cannot often show all of the stones' ambiance and jewelry pieces' fine detail. Also computer monitors vary and often color tones are set to suit the viewer's preferences. When shopping, remember that "the pictures are meant as a rough guide only." All our products have a money-back guarantee (see terms above) so there is no risk in ordering from the Buena Vista Gem Works.
