Colorado Columbine Blue Agate Cabochons - A Buena Vista Gem Works web exclusive!!

Columbine agate is very rare and is found in a very small area in the old extinct volcanic regions of the Colorado mountains. So named because of the resemblance in color to the state flower, the blue columbine. This agate, like many agates and gems, varies some in color tone depending on the light source, from stronger brighter blue to a more grayish-purple blue. Very similar in color to and undoubtedly equally as rare as the world-famous Ellensburg (WA) blue.

After years of self-collecting this rare exclusive Columbine Blue Agate, I am just starting to offer cabs and rough specimens for sale. The cabs are sought after by wire-wrap professionals and silver-smither's. See some of our Blue Agate Jewelry for sale as samples of how well this blue agate looks in silver.

In the near future, I will be taking pictures and getting some cabochons listed on this webpage. In the meantime, if you have an interest in purchasing a blue agate polished cab or rough specimen, send me an email for particulars and pictures of what I have in stock. Priced according to color and aesthetics--and the quality purchased.
  Turquoise, Leadville, Colorado.

I have a lot of wonderful turquoise from the old Turquoise Chief Mine in Leadville. This is old material and hasn't been mined for 50 years or so, as far as I know. Most will be freeform shapes and vary from light robin-egg blue to deep blue to greenish to deep green. Just as color varies considerably, so does hardness. Gems up to 1" in size. Depth varies, and some will have a liquid steel backing.

I plan to get individual cabs posted here when I get a chance. In the meantime, if you interested in purchasing one or several pieces of Leadville Turquoise, email me for particulars and some pictures. Priced according to color and aesthetics--and the quality purchased.
  Turquoise, Villa Grove, Colorado

I have a few nice smallish pieces of turquoise from this wonderful locale in southern Colorado. These were dump collected years ago so don't expect any giants. Most of these are smallish and thin. But Villa Grove is known world-wide for its outstanding quality and color. As with most any turquoise locale, color and quality vary considerably. The mine property has been purchased and is access is no longer available for collecting.

I plan to put a few individual pieces online when I have a chance. If you have an interest in Villa Grove Turquoise, email me for particulars and some pictures of what I have in stock. Price according to size, color, and quality.
New! Large designer freeform cabochon cut from a slab of Creede, CO Amethyst Agate (a.k.a. "sowbelly agate"). Old material that was part of the vein that was associated with the silver ore in the mines there, but had little silver value in it so was thrown out as waste product. This one maintains the integrity of the deep-colored amethyst crystal points along the top edge. Roughly 36x41 mm, about 5 mm thick. A real prize. Polished one face with slight curvature, flat-sanded on back.  (Stock #agtpur36x41fr) $45.

New! Amazonite from Crystal Peak, CO. This large arrowhead shaped cabochon is 30x42 mm in size. It's a nice turquoise blue with dashes of albite feldspar and brown iron spots which give it character. Has a decent top sheen too (like moonstone). It would make a fine wirewrap pendant. (Stock #amzblu30x42ah) $25.
Here are some more Colorado Amazonites (mostly from our claims at Crystal Peak) that I worked up last summer. Bezel set these in sterling or wirewrap for a wonderful American gemstone. These will run in the $10 to $20 range for the most part. As time permits, I will try to list some of these individually. Some have the typical "moonstone" type silver sheen on top.
New! Rhodonite (a.k.a. pyrox-mangite) from Silverton, CO. This is a long designer teardrop perfect for a pendant. It measures 12 mm wide by 44 mm long, and ~6 mm deep. This material was associated as waste rock with the old gold and metal mines of this historic area. The largest quantity of material was from the famous old American Tunnel. Cuts a pretty pink cabochon. Some cut pieces have even shown minute spots of visible gold or silver. (Stock #rdnpnk12x44td) $15.

PLEASE NOTE: Much effort has been made in the attempt to get as accurate a picture as possible of our gemstones. Please keep the following in mind while shopping: Cameras do not see color exactly the same as the human eye and lighting conditions often cause large variances. When taking pictures for the web, we have found that it is very difficult to capture the brilliance that the human eye sees and photos cannot often show all of the stones' ambiance and jewelry pieces' fine detail. Also computer monitors vary and often color tones are set to suit the viewer's preferences. When shopping, remember that "the pictures are meant as a rough guide only." All our products have a money-back guarantee (see terms above) so there is no risk in ordering from the Buena Vista Gem Works.

To order or check on the availability of the piece(s), simply drop me an email or give me a call/text at the email/phone number below. Please include the Product Name and Stock Number when inquiring about product or placing an order. For more information on ordering, my guarantee, payment methods, shipping preferences, and shipping costs, see my Terms and Conditions page. **To Know: I am frequently "off the grid" when I am in the field collecting and might not be able to respond to your inquiry promptly. I will respond when I am once again in cell phone range.
